Designerie Brings Versatile Outdoor Living to W Prague’s Above Rooftop

High above Wenceslas Square, where Art Nouveau ornament meets contemporary glass and steel, the Above Rooftop Bar at the W Prague has become one of the city’s most magnetic destinations. The hotel, a transformation of the legendary Grand Hotel Evropa, fuses a century of Czech heritage with the W brand’s irreverent, design-forward spirit. Its interiors riff on Prague’s nickname as the “City of Gold,” weaving a “Golden Elixir” motif and a dreamlike “Fantastical Garden” through restored stucco, glass installations, and jewel-toned lounges. At the top, the rooftop terrace translates that narrative into an open-air playground of dining, lounging, and social energy—brought to life with the adaptable outdoor collections of Todus, distributed exclusively by Designerie in North America.

A stylish rooftop terrace designed for flow and connection, featuring modern blue-grey sofas and woven white armchairs arranged for conversation. Beyond the glass railing, a panoramic city view unfolds under soft, natural light, creating an atmosphere of effortless artistry perfect for an inviting outdoor space.

From the start, the Above Rooftop brief was ambitious: create a multi-zone outdoor environment that could move effortlessly from long, late-afternoon lunches to DJ-driven cocktail hours, all while weathering Prague’s unpredictable seasons. Designers needed furniture that could shift forms, resist wind and wear, and maintain a sleek European look suited to the W brand. Instead of piecing together disparate products, they turned to Todus, whose modular outdoor systems and refined finishes could anchor every corner of the terrace.

One of the rooftop’s most striking gestures is its continuous banquette seating. Long runs of the Dongo modular sofa were reconfigured and even placed face-to-face to create bespoke-looking built-ins that trace the perimeter of the space. These generous lines of seating encourage groups to gather while maximizing views of Prague’s skyline. Around fire features, the same Dongo modules appear in more intimate lounge clusters, paired with low case tables that feel casual but remain weighty enough to stay put in breezy rooftop conditions.

Spherical pendant lights hang above, while beyond the lounge, a panoramic city view stretches out under a clear blue sky, offering an artful backdrop for a seamless indoor-outdoor space.

For dining, the designers shifted the vocabulary without abandoning consistency. Baza dining tables and Baza chairs form inviting café settings, while a dramatic large Branta table anchors a communal dining area. Nearby, bar-height groupings echo the energy of the indoor W Lounge, giving guests multiple ways to experience the terrace—from a quiet coffee to a celebratory nightcap.

Beyond the glass railing, a panoramic city view with a distinct golden dome stretches to the horizon, creating a serene and artful backdrop for an effortless outdoor space.

This versatility is more than aesthetic. Todus pieces are engineered for demanding hospitality environments: powder-coated stainless steel frames deliver weight and stability, while advanced outdoor finishes resist weather and heavy use. The collections’ clean lines and tailored upholstery balance luxury with durability, ensuring the rooftop remains elegant even through high turnover and seasonal exposure.

Equally important was the ability to plan across heights and functions without leaving the brand’s design language. Using a single manufacturer’s system meant the design team could scale from lounge to dining to bar height, creating visual cohesion while customizing layouts to the site’s unique flow. The result is a terrace that feels curated rather than cobbled together—every setting distinct, yet part of a unified story.

That story ties seamlessly into the W Prague narrative. The hotel celebrates both heritage and reinvention: AvroKO London Studio, Benoy, Chapman Taylor, and DAM blended original 1905 Art Nouveau details with bold new gestures like the nine-story elliptical wing. The rooftop needed furniture that could match this duality—contemporary in silhouette but substantial and timeless in build. Todus, with its European craftsmanship and ability to adapt modular pieces into new typologies, fit naturally.

For Designerie, the project underscores a growing trend: hospitality designers seeking flexible outdoor systems that don’t sacrifice design integrity. As rooftops become signature spaces—from resort pool decks to urban sky lounges—the ability to tailor seating runs, integrate dining, and maintain cohesive finishes has moved from nice-to-have to essential. Above Rooftop shows how a single furniture language can unlock countless planning possibilities while standing up to real-world use.

The finished terrace is more than just a bar with a view. It’s a layered, multi-height environment where guests can drift from breakfast espresso to sunset aperitif to late-night music without ever leaving the skyline. It feels both of its place—rooted in Prague’s storied history—and forward-looking, reflecting the W brand’s glamour and playfulness. And behind the scenes, it’s powered by a furniture strategy that understands the demands of modern hospitality: adaptable, durable, and design-led.
