Khâluna Restaurant - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Blending Laotian Flavor and Tropical Design in Minneapolis

Located in Minneapolis’ Lyndale neighborhood, Khâluna brings together vibrant Laotian-inspired cuisine and an interior that feels warm, layered, and transportive. Led by Chef Ann Ahmed, the restaurant pairs bold culinary influences with a thoughtfully designed space by Shea Design, rooted in natural textures, soft architectural curves, and hospitality-driven comfort.

The dining room balances refinement with ease, creating an atmosphere that feels equally suited for an intimate dinner or a lively evening gathering. Oversized woven pendant lighting anchors the space overhead, while warm oak tones, plaster finishes, and tropical greenery soften the restaurant’s clean architectural lines.

Throughout the restaurant, woven seating helps create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere while complementing the natural material palette used throughout the interior. The Rossini Side Chair brings texture and warmth to the dining room, while Salsa counter stools line the bar area, reinforcing the restaurant’s tropical-modern aesthetic through handcrafted woven details and organic tones.

The layered mix of curved banquettes, warm woods, and ambient lighting gives the interior a sense of intimacy despite the openness of the layout. Arched shelving niches and softly illuminated back bar details further contribute to the restaurant’s calm, immersive atmosphere.

In the main dining areas, Alanis Side Chairs introduce additional woven texture and softness to the space. Their lighter finish pairs naturally with the pale wood tables and warm flooring, helping maintain the airy, inviting tone carried throughout the restaurant’s interior.

Natural materials remain the defining thread throughout Khâluna’s design. From woven seating and wood finishes to sculptural lighting and greenery, every detail works together to create an environment that feels relaxed, elevated, and deeply hospitality-focused.

Khâluna’s interior is a strong example of Shea Design’s ability to create hospitality spaces that feel immersive, warm, and highly considered. The result is a restaurant experience that feels transportive while still grounded in comfort, creating a seamless extension of Khâluna’s culinary identity.
